SECTION 4: EVALUATING WEB SITES

INTERNAL SEARCH FEATURES EXAMPLES

Examples of internal search features are shown on the next two screens. You can either look at the screen captures that we have provided, or click on the link to each Web site to open another browser window where you can follow along using the "live" version of the site.

The Consumers' Boston AIDS Information Outreach Project Web site displays its search feature on the top right-hand side of every screen.

(Click here if you want to open a new browser window to this site. You can also do a "Bookmark" in Netscape® or add it to your "Favorites" in Internet Explorer® if you want to go back to it later: http://med-libwww.bu.edu/library/cbaiop.html).

The AEGIS (AIDS Education Global Information System) Web site displays its search feature on the menu bar that appears on the far left-hand side of the screen.

(Click here if you want to open a new browser window to the AEGIS Web site. You can also do a "Bookmark" in Netscape® or add it to your "Favorites" in Internet Explorer® if you want to go back to it later: http://www.aegis.com/).

Notice on the screen below, that when we click on the search feature , a search screen appears. In Section 3 of this tutorial, we showed you tips and hints for using search engines effectively. You can now apply those skills to a Web site's internal search feature. Remember to read the search options carefully before beginning a search.
