Here's an example from Excite®, which is a META search engine.

Click here if you want to open a new browser window to Excite ®. You can also do a "Bookmark" in Netscape® or add it to your "Favorites" in Internet Explorer® if you want to go back to it later: http://www.excite.com).

Notice on the screen below that the sites are numbered: 1, 2, 3, and so on. Also notice for each site that was found: 1.) the site TITLE, 2.) ANNOTATION, and 3.) URL:

Here's another example of search results from Google®.

Click here if you want to open a new browser window to Google®. You can also do a "Bookmark" in Netscape® or add it to your "Favorites" in Internet Explorer® if you want to go back to it later: http://www.google.com).

Notice on the screen below the results are not given any kind of a ranking. Also notice the "Sponsored" search results on the right-hand side of the screen, and the other results that are listed on the left.

1. The TITLE of the Web page is listed first.
The title of the first Web site is: CTN Clinical Trials Database.

2. Then an ANNOTATION is included. The ANNOTATION is made up of words from the Web site -- usually the first few words on the top of the Web site.

3. The URL is next.
The URL for the first site is: www.hivnet.ubc.ca/List1.html
