You may know of a local, state, or national organization or association, but you might NOT know its URL
or address on the Web. (URLs were discussed in Section 1.)
Organization and association Web site URLs always end in the .org domain:
http://www.name.org
But, you can NOT always rely on being able to enter an association's acronym or initials:
| American Heart Association -- AHA |
http://www.americanheart.org (http://www.aha.org was already claimed by the American Hospital Association) |
| American Lung Association -- ALA |
http://www.lungusa.org (http://www.ala.org was already claimed by the American Library Association) |
|
Gay Men's Health Crisis -- GMCH |
http://www.gmhc.org |
|
National Association of People With AIDS -- NAPWA |
http://www.napwa.org |
|
AIDS Education Global Information System -- AEGIS |
http://www.aegis.org |
To find an organization Web site, first try typing the acronym.org into the address bar of your Web browser.
If that does not take you to the correct site, you can then go to your favorite search engine, and do a phrase search for the name of the organization or association. The organization name should appear near the top of the search engine results list. (Details about using search engines are covered in Section 3 of this tutorial.)
