SECTION 2: STRATEGIES FOR LOCATING RELIABLE HIV/AIDS INFORMATION ON THE WEB

HIV InSite

HIV InSite is the next featured HIV/AIDS Web resource.

HIV InSite is developed by the Center for HIV Information (CHI) at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). HIV InSite includes a collection of materials related to all aspects of HIV/AIDS.

Click here if you want to open a new browser window to HIV InSite. You can also do a "Bookmark" in Netscape® or add it to your "Favorites" in Internet Explorer® if you want to go back to it later: http://www.hivinsite.org/.
You can open a second Web browse screen and follow along "live" or use the screen captures below).

HIV InSite's Web site is below. Notice that each page includes a convenient navigation bar, with the site's content organized by CATEGORY:

  • Knowledge Base (the online textbook)
  • Medical
  • Prevention
  • Policy Analysis
  • Countries & Regions
One of the site's strongest features is its "Knowledge Base", an online textbook with references and links that are organized by topic.

Other links to "home", "site map", "basics", "audio", and "news" appear at the very top of the page.

The "Site Map" is a particularly useful option. A site map is an index or guide to the entire contents of a Web site. If you want to know exactly how a site is organized and what kinds of information it contains, go to the site map. Instead of using a site's "search" option, check out the site map -- it may quickly point you to just the information you need.

HIV InSite also includes an internal search feature that allows users to enter simple key words to find resources on the Web site.
