SECTION 2: STRATEGIES FOR LOCATING RELIABLE HIV/AIDS INFORMATION ON THE WEB

THINKING IN TERMS OF CATEGORY

SECOND:
After you have decided upon the general CATEGORY of your topic, think about the type of organization or group that may gather and report on the kind of information that you need.

For example, if you are looking for information about pending FDA-approval for a drug that you've heard about, you would consider looking in the FDA's Web site.

If you wanted information about support groups for caregivers, you would consider looking at local advocacy or support group Web sites.

Instead of using a traditional search engine, try using the Web collections of particular organizations:

  • libraries

  • local, state, or federal government agencies

  • local or national organizations or associations for consumers or professionals
