WHAT IS THE INTERNET?

Every computer on the Internet is part of a network.

It is these connections of computers that make-up the International Network -- or the Internet.

For example:

AOL® connects to other networks...

Which connect to other networks...

Which are all part of the global Internet.

Another example:

This tutorial sits on a computer at the Boston University Medical Center. That computer is part of the Boston University network, which is part of the National New England ARea Network (NEAR Net), which is connected to the National infrastructure, and so on.
