Searching Option #2: Using Direct Entry to Bypass Menu Options
Another way to identify journal names or journal titles is to bypass the menu opions and search via direct entry. Using direct entry, you can enter the journal name directly in the "Enter Keyword or Phrase" box:
-
Format:
journal.so. The .so. tells the system to search the "source field" of each citation for the journal name that has been entered.
EXAMPLES
- Format:
journal.so. The .so. tells the system to search the "source field" of each citation for the journal name that has been entered.
- Type in the "Enter Keyword or Phrase" box:
american journal of public health.so.
- Type in the "Enter Keyword or Phrase" box:
circulation.so.
- Type in the "Enter Keyword or Phrase" box:
(british medical journal or bmj).so. will retrieve the journal using the full name, OR the acronym.
Remember that for each journal title, there may be thousands of articles in the MEDLINE database. So, it's always a good idea to combine your journal name search with some other variable -- a subject (using MeSH), title word(s), text word(s), volume numbers, pages, etc. Use this link to read more about using direct entry to search for journal volumes, issues, and pages.
